Viral video of two girls dancing in towels at Kolkata school sparks outrage
Kolkata: Two girls performed a Towel Dance at a school function in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal. They danced to the Bollywood song Mere Khabo Mein Aaye from the movie Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. This video has been going viral on social media for a few days. In that movie, actress Kajol also dances to the song wearing a white towel. School girls also stepped out in the same manner. However, the school song was criticized on social media. Some commented that it was obscene and obscene. They asked why children in schools danced like this.
In this context, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the school. A complainant has told the Human Rights Commission of India that allowing such dances in the school means there is a lack of management in the school. The complaint states that such dances have the potential to have a negative impact on the behavior of children. The complaint has asked the school as well as the state government to give a full report. The NHRC has also asked educational institutions to issue guidelines to prevent the display of dances that depict minor girls in a sexually explicit manner on digital platforms.
Along with the school, notices were also issued to the Principal Secretary of the Education Department, the City Police Commissioner, and the District Magistrate of Bengal. The notices directed them to look into the allegations in the complaint received. The human rights group has asked them to submit a report on the action taken within two weeks.
