VERNA: Minor panic due to information of gas leak in Verna Industrial Estate

Verna: A minor panic spread after information about a gas leak was received in Verna Industrial Estate on Thursday morning. The leak occurred near the Monginis factory in Varna when workers were excavating an area to lay cables.

The emergency situation was immediately reported to Fire and Emergency Services (FES) Varna. The cause of the leaked gas originated from a pipeline damaged during excavation.

Fire and Emergency Services (FES) Varna responded immediately to the gas leak, leading to an efficient solution. The leaked gas was from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and was described as cooking gas. There was a fracture at the joint.

Fire officer Herbert Fernandes said he received the call at 10:45 am and fire service personnel reached the spot.

“When we arrived, we found a significant leak, workers were applying mud on the pipe to stop the gas from escaping. In view of the proximity to the transformer, the electricity department was contacted to switch off the power. Gas company officials were called to shut off the gas line, which they successfully did,” Fernandes said.

With these measures in place, the gas subsided and the area was declared safe after a thorough assessment.
