Vemula Prashanth Reddy Slams Speaker’s Decision as Dark Day in Legislative History

Hyderabad: Former minister and MLA Vemula Prashanth Reddy said that the Speaker’s clean chit to MLAs Danam Nagendhar and Kadiyam Srihari in the party defection case is a mockery of democracy and the spirit of the Constitution. He criticized that the Speaker’s decision will remain a dark day in the history of the legislature.

He said that the people’s representatives who were elected on the symbol of one party and then worked for the ruling party were trampling on the verdict of the people. Vemula Prashanth Reddy criticized that the Speaker’s giving a clean chit to Danam Nagender, who was an MLA of the BRS party and contested as an MP on the Congress party’s B-form, was a betrayal of democracy and a complete insult to the verdict of the people.

He reminded that everyone knows that Kadiyam Srihari’s daughter contested the elections as an MP on a Congress ticket. He said that people have witnessed firsthand that Kadiyam Srihari himself not only campaigned on behalf of his daughter wearing a Congress scarf, but also openly campaigned on behalf of candidates who contested on a Congress ticket in the recent municipal elections.

They criticized the Speaker for giving them a clean chit even in such clear circumstances, not only encouraging party defections but also strengthening the argument that constitutional mechanisms are being used in favor of those in power. They said that the decisions taken by the Speaker will seriously damage the trust of the people and this ruling, which encourages party defections, will go down as a dark day in the history of the legislature.
