USA: US House of Representatives passes law to ban TikTok

New Delhi: The US House of Representatives has passed a law aimed at banning TikTok. After this, the way has been cleared for Tik-Tok to be banned in America. This app is used by 170 million people in America. Earlier, the Government of India had also banned this app. Chinese company ByteDance controls this app. It was banned in India on 29 June 2020. At that time, this company had a big market on social media even outside China.
The Indian government had banned 59 apps including Tik-Tok citing national security. Since then, more than 300 Chinese apps have been banned in India, including WeChat, ShareIt, Helo, Likee. Recently, the government also banned many loan apps which were directly related to China.
All these apps were banned after being found guilty of violating Section 69 of the IT Act. After the ban, TikTok dismissed all its employees. TikTok had dismissed about 40 of its employees. In 2020, the Indian Army had also asked its employees to remove all 89 apps from their mobiles, which included many Chinese apps.
Due to its connection with the Chinese government, TikTok was seen as a threat to national security, keeping this in mind it was decided to ban it. MPs and officials had expressed apprehension that Beijing could compromise the information of Indians through this app.
TikTok has argued that the data of Americans is stored in the US only. Last year, Nepal also banned TikTok saying that the content present in it is harmful for social harmony.
