Unusual punishment in a murder case: The boy was ordered to work in the emergency department of a government hospital for three years.

Tamil Nadu: The Thoothukudi Juvenile Justice Board has handed down a unique sentence to a boy accused in a murder case in Thoothukudi. He has been ordered to perform community service in the emergency department of a government hospital for three years.
Subbaiah (45) was a resident of Srivaikuntaperumalpuram near Kulathur in Thoothukudi district. He was the headman of Kallarani village. On August 12, 2008, during the donation festival at the Kaliamman temple there, Murugan alias Shakthivelmurugan, Muniyasamy alias Chinnammuniyasamy, and a 17-year-old boy from Srivaikuntaperumalpuram got into a drunken brawl. When Subbaiah intervened, on August 14, 2008, while he was traveling on a motorcycle with his son Raja on the Kulathur-Kallarani road, the aforementioned individuals intercepted them and hacked Subbaiah to death with an axe.
In this case, Murugan and Muniyasamy were sentenced to life imprisonment by the Thoothukudi District First Additional Sessions Court in 2010.
The case against the 17-year-old boy was being heard by the Thoothukudi Juvenile Justice Board. The Juvenile Justice Board, comprising Chief Justice Pakiyaraj, members Saravanan and Umadevi, heard the case and ordered the boy to perform community service in the emergency department of the Thoothukudi Government Medical College Hospital from 8 AM to 4 PM daily for three years. The medical officer there will monitor his attendance and submit details to the Juvenile Justice Board every month. This judgment was pronounced on Thursday. It is noteworthy that the boy is now 34 years old. Advocate Murugaperumal represented the government in this case.
