Union Minister Sonowal starts major initiative to promote AYUSH sector
Guwahati: Union AYUSH Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday launched four major initiatives to promote the AYUSH sector in Northeast India. Sonowal inaugurated the North Eastern region’s first dedicated Panchakarma block at the Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI) in Guwahati and dedicated the block to the nation. He also inaugurated the region’s first state-of-the-art pharmacology and biochemistry lab for AYUSH. The Union AYUSH Minister also laid the foundation stone of the permanent campus of the Regional Research Institute of Homeopathy (RRIH) along with the Integrated AYUSH Wellness Center to be built in Azara area of Guwahati. The Integrated AYUSH Wellness Center is the first of its kind in the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Sonowal said, “Under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the traditional system of medicine has been revamped so that it strengthens the healthcare delivery system in the country. “Given the proven results of our rich healing systems, age-old treatments from medical systems like Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, Homeopathy, Naturopathy and Sowa Rigpa should be incorporated into modern medicinal practice.” “This will result in a powerful integrative medicine that will heal physical ailments and provide a pathway to mental well-being. The new Panchakarma block as well as state-of-the-art laboratories for AYUSH are steps that will enable. The Union AYUSH Minister said in a press statement that the dedicated Panchakarma Block (G+3) at CARI will provide the best Panchakarma treatment to the people at reasonable rates. The researchers will also investigate the role of Panchakarma in healing patients as well as enriching their quality of life. He further mentioned that, with an area of 9453.30 square feet, the new building will conduct scientific validation of Panchakarma treatments. A Panchakarma training course will also be run here to train Panchakarma technicians, ensuring quality resources for the AYUSH market. The G+3 building was built at a cost of over Rs 7.72 crore.
The building is equipped with dedicated rooms for performing major Panchakarma treatments such as Snehana and Swedana Room, Shirodhara Room and Basti Room. A pharmaceutical laboratory has also been created to prepare medicines used in Panchakarma like decoction and Basti liquid. The Union AYUSH Minister said that space has also been created for dedicated classes to train Panchakarma technicians under the Panchakarma Technician course.
Sonowal further said in the press statement that the G+3 building is also equipped with a conference hall, a special therapy room for VIP guests, a living room, a guest room, a waiting room and a canteen. Various machines like new Panchakarma Droni, Bapsha Swedan Yantra (Steam Chamber), Nadi Swedan Yantra, Sarvangdhara Yantra, Shirodhara Yantra, Basti Yantra, Nasya Applicator, Avagah Tub, Sauna Chamber and other major equipments are also being installed for effective Panchakarma. .
Treatment. Pharmacology and Biochemistry Laboratory is equipped with facilities for drug standardization, safety and efficacy evaluation of Ayurvedic formulations. The laboratory will scientifically validate the therapeutic and safety potential of classical Ayurvedic formulations, ethno-medicinal plants and plant-based formulations. It will also work to develop cost effective innovative polyherbal formulations from Ayurvedic plants, especially those found in the North Eastern region. The G+2 building was built at a cost of over Rs 2.71 crore.

The Chemistry Laboratory has to work on standardization of Ayurvedic formulations and ensuring the quality of medicines.
Modern equipment, such as high-performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC), high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), and X-ray diffractometer (XRD), are spread across the field. 3491.62 sq ft (G+2) in new lab. The new campus of Regional Research Institute of Homeopathy (RRIH) is spread over an area of 18,610 square feet. The AYUSH Minister said that this project, built at an estimated cost of Rs 53.89 crore, is scheduled to be completed by 2026.
The new complex will be equipped with a 50-bed IPD unit and OPD services along with specialized clinics, he said, adding that a diagnostic laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment, an emergency unit and a small operation theater will be part of it.
