Jammu and Kashmir: Amid continuing heat wave and possibility of tourists flocking to Kashmir, major picnic spots have become overcrowded, forcing the government to make efforts to promote offbeat destinations as well as make them accessible. Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Wednesday said major tourist destinations are getting overcrowded and efforts are being made to promote offbeat destinations. Shekhawat said the Centre is committed to provide all necessary assistance to improve road and mobile connectivity to less explored destinations across the country, news agency KNO reported. The minister said the government has asked all states, including the administration of Union Territory Jammu and Kashmir, to prepare a roadmap to improve infrastructure, network connectivity and roads to make less explored destinations more accessible to both national and foreign tourists. Talking to reporters on the sidelines of an event at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar, the minister said the government has launched online modules to enhance the skills of guides, while new training programmes are also being set up for new guides.
