Under double engine govt, katni chatni is double now: LoP Naveen Patnaik on Governor’s address
Bhubaneswar: The BJP government tried to hide its failures under BJD government’s success and under the double engine government, the Katni Chatni is double now, alleged Leader of Opposition (LoP) Naveen Patnaik while replying to Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati’s address at the State Assembly on the occasion of the commencement of Odisha Budget Session on Thursday.
In his reply to the Governor’s address, Patnaik said, “I oppose the motion of thanks for Hon’ble Governor’s Address to this August House on 13th February. In this Address, the Government tried to hide its failures under the success of BJD Government. The present Government is trying to take credit for the achievements of the previous BJD Government.”
“Instead of resorting to taking false credit, the double engine Government should focus on addressing pressing issues like deteriorating law and order situation, rising prices, farmers’ woes, and unemployment,” he added.
The LoP further said, “The Governor’s Address should be the roadmap for development and welfare of the people, but unfortunately political overtones has completely destroyed its sanctity. This is totally uncalled for.”
“Farmers are the backbone of our economy. During elections BJP made big promises about paddy procurement and assured the farmers about end of katni chatni. But truth is something different. There is huge difference in the words and deeds of this BJP Government. Katni chatni continues unabated. Rather under Double Engine it is Double now. Can the CM or the concerned Minister say putting their hands in their chest that they have stopped katni chatni in the current procurement process,” he questioned.
“BJP State Government has betrayed the farmers. They are on the road. They are committing suicide for not getting adequate compensation for unseasonal rains in December last,” the BJD president alleged adding that when BJD Government was in power, notifications pertaining to crop loss used to mention about the actual cultivators, who constitute the large chunk of the farming community, so that they can get the benefits, but this BJP Government has deprived the actual cultivators of their entitlements.
Patnaik also raised the law and order situation saying that coming to the law and order situation, the less said the better. Atrocities on women are on the rise. “Theft and dacoity cases have become common. Even the Capital City is not immune from it. In double engine government double theft attempt was made from the house of a former Minister in a high security area. Even when the President and the Prime Minister were in the city, the citizens were shocked with the incidence of Broad Day light murder in a crowded place,” he mentioned.
Naveen also spoke about the continuous price rise. “Last January, BJD organized a huge rally in Bhubaneswar against price rise. The massive public support to this rally reflected public anger against the Government’s inability to rein in price rise. I am shocked to know that Odisha is among the top three States grappling with High Inflation. While Kerala records inflation at 6.76%, the two double engine states, Odisha and Chhattisgarh record 6.05% and 5.85% respectively. This is the report of the Government of India and the Union Government had advised the State Government to take immediate steps to control price rise,” he said.
“At the end, I would rather say Governor’s address was only a speech, no Vision. It is easy to blame others and shower flower petals on your own. People know everything and Lord Jagannath sees it all,” Patnaik claimed.
