UAE announces paid holiday for private sector employees on July 7
ABU DHABI: The UAE has announced a paid holiday for employees of a private sector on July 7. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) has declared Sunday a holiday on the occasion of Hijri New Year. In the Islamic calendar, this date is translated as Muharram 1 marking the start of new Hijri year, 1446 AH .
Other countries like Oman have also declared Hijri New Year holiday for both public and private sector employees. Residents of the UAE have two public holidays left this year. They are Prophet Muhammad’s birthday and national day. December 2nd and 3rd are national holidays. This is according to the announcement of the holiday list for 2024 by the UAE Cabinet. This is in addition to the 30 leaves that employees can take in a year.
In the UAE, June 15 to 18 was a holiday in the public and private sectors as part of Bakrid. After the sighting of the crescent moon in Saudi Arabia, Bakrid was on June 16. In all the rest of the Gulf countries, except Oman, Bakrid was on June 16. It was on June 17 in Oman. It was also celebrated in Kerala on June 17.
