Two women laborers died in brick kiln collapse in Odisha

Berhampur: In a tragic incident, two women laborers lost their lives and two others were seriously injured when a brick kiln collapsed at Nuagada village under Pattapur police limits in Ganjam district on Friday.

The tragedy occurred when nine workers were working at the brick kiln, four of whom were inside stacking raw bricks. However, the high stakes gave way, trapping four workers below. Despite rescue efforts, one laborer died on the spot, while the remaining three were taken to Digapahandi CHC. Later, as his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to MKCG MCH.

Sadly, one of them died during treatment at MKCG MCH. The deceased have been identified as Sulabh Dora (60) of Khuludi village and Saraswati Pradhan (60) of Bahladiya village.
Pattapur police confirmed the deaths and began investigating the incident, with both the local police and the district labor officer visiting the spot.
The kiln owner is currently absconding. The body was handed over to the relatives after post-mortem in MCH.
Illegal brick kilns are mushrooming in remote areas of Sanakhemundi block, which have largely not been curbed by the local authorities.
