Two school children killed and many injured in road accident, angry people set van on fire, attacked police

Garhwa: An auto rickshaw full of school children was hit by a pickup van in Garhwa district headquarters of Jharkhand. Two children died on the spot in the accident, while seven-eight children were injured. After the accident, angry local people set the pickup van on fire.

People attacked the DSP of Ranka, BDO of Garhwa and the police team who reached the spot. Many vehicles were also damaged. When the attempt to convince the people failed, the police also lathi-charged to disperse the crowd.

This accident happened on the bypass road of Garhwa on Tuesday afternoon, when the auto was going to Jata village to take the children to their homes after school at RN Tagore School located in Sahijana locality of the city. Meanwhile, a high-speed pickup van coming from the other direction hit the auto. There were 12 children on the auto.

The auto was badly damaged. The people living nearby immediately rushed to the spot and took the children out of the auto and sent them to Garhwa Sadar Hospital for treatment, where two children were declared dead. Other children have sustained serious injuries.

The children’s family members and a large number of local people are present at the hospital. A large number of people are also present at the spot. They even chased away the fire brigade that had arrived to douse the fire in the pickup van. The Garhwa bypass road is still under construction, but vehicular traffic has started on it. Many accidents have taken place on this road in recent times.
