Two-Day SUMP Awareness Campaign Held in Pangkang

PANGKANG: In an effort to strengthen regional understanding of the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP), a two-day public awareness and community engagement programme was conducted across the villages of the Pangkangregion in Siang district.

The initiative witnessed active participation of multiple villagers and households. The participants engaged in discussions on infrastructure, regional development, and community welfare associated with the project.

The grassroots drive commenced at Pangkang (Jorkong) on 25 May, focusing on public understanding of SUMP’s potential developmental benefits. The session was held in the presence of Village Development and SUMP Development Committee president Tamyo Mingki, SUMP vice president Tamo Jerang, and Village Development Committee secretary Omak Tali.

On 26 May, an event was held at Pangkang (Kumku) in the presence of SUMP Development Committee (SUMPDC) chairman Bakin Tali and SUMPDC vice chairman Omin Tamut.

At both venues, the organising teams facilitated open interaction sessions, providing multiple villagers with the opportunity to directly raise queries and share local insights. To ensure transparent communication and sustained understanding, comprehensive SUMP information booklets were distributed among the villagers following the discussions.

By prioritising direct dialogue with accurate local representation and residents, these consecutive programmes promoted awareness, encouraged informed participation, and strengthened community engagement regarding the SUMP in the Pangkang region.
