Two-day Curfew imposed in parts of Balasore district ahead of slum demolition for railway line extension

Balasore: Parts of Balasore district is under a two-day curfew. The areas of Arad Bazar, vegetable market, Hairpur, Kasimila, Phuladi, Puaa Bazaar, Gopal gaon and Darazpokhari are under curfew from 4.00 am to 10.00 pm. For the extension of the third rail line, the slums in the above mentioned areas will be demolished. To avoid any unpleasant situation, curfew was put forth.

As an impact of the curfew, public associations of people, rallies, meetings have be disallowed. The two-day curfew was imposed under the section 144. The curfew imposition has developed a fear in the minds of the slum dwellers. The people are spending sleepless nights following the information of curfew imposition. Police have been deployed to arrest the happening of any unpleasant event.

On December 25, the BMC (Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation) Mayor, Sulochana Das evicted the unregistered makeshift vendors from the sides of Bhubaneswar roads. She said that, the registered vendors will be given permanent shops in the vending zone.
