Trump’s tariffs impact Buick sales

World World: General Motors’ (GM) Buick brand, which previously saw sales grow by 39%, is now in trouble due to tariffs on imported vehicles imposed by President Trump. Buick’s three most popular models, the Envista, Encore GX and Envision SUVs, all built outside the US, are now subject to heavy tariffs. Models made in South Korea have a 27.5% tariff, while the Envision built in China has a 47.5% duty, including several taxes.

Buick’s sales momentum, which had grown in the past few years, is now under threat due to these increased prices. Analysts believe that the high prices could hinder Buick’s success in the US market, and even threaten its existence. These tariffs have forced automakers to reconsider the profitability of importing foreign-made models.

General Motors has adjusted its production strategies, including increasing truck production in the U.S., but prices of vehicles affected by the tariffs could rise by up to 15% on lower-priced models such as the Buick Envista and Chevrolet Trax.
