Trump called Syria a problematic country
America. Donald Trump said on Saturday that the US should not get involved in the conflict in Syria, where rebel forces are threatening the government of President Bashar al-Assad. Trump said in a post on his social media platform Truth Social, “Syria is a problematic country, but not our friend. America should have nothing to do with it. This is not our fight. Let it go on. Don’t get involved.” Trump said that since Russia is an ally of Assad, embroiled in a war with Ukraine, “it seems that he is unable to stop this literal march through Syria, a country he has protected for years.” Donald Trump said that if Russia is separated from Syria, it “could actually be the best thing for them.” Trump’s comments appear to reflect his opposition to the presence of about 900 US troops in Syria, most of whom are in the northeast, where he has backed a Syrian Kurdish-led coalition to prevent the resurgence of Islamic State militants.
New US President Trump announced during his first term in 2018 that he wanted to withdraw US troops as he said the Islamic State was close to defeat. But he refused to do so as advisers warned that the withdrawal would create a vacuum that Iran and Russia would fill. Syrian opposition activists and a rebel commander have claimed that the rebels have advanced rapidly and reached the suburbs of Damascus. He claimed that the rebels have captured some major cities in Syria.
