Triyuginarayan Temple, Uttarakhand: Believed to be where Lord Shiva and Parvati tied the knot

There are many ancient temples in India. Some of these temples amaze us. These temples are known all over the world for their mystery and beauty. The Triyuginarayan Temple located in Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand is one of such temples because it is believed that marriage of Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati took place here. Therefore, newlywed couples from far away come to this temple to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati.

A distinctive feature of the Triyuginarayan Temple is the Akhand Dhuni, a fire believed to have been burning continuously since the wedding of Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati. This sacred flame is said to have served as a witness to the celestial marriage, with Shambhu Baba (Lord Shiva) and Maa Parvati solemnizing their bond in its presence.

Devotees visiting the temple contribute wood to sustain this holy fire and reverently accept the ashes as sacred prasad. Popular belief holds that receiving these ashes as prasad invokes blessings of love and devotion.

According to mythological texts, many deities attended the marriage of Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati. Lord Brahma officiated as the chief priest, while Lord Vishnu, acting as Mata Parvati’s brother, participated in the sacred rites.

Newlywed couples come to this temple to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati. The Triyuginarayana Temple is surrounded by four holy water tanks, Rudra Kund, Vishnu Kund, Brahma Kund and Saraswati Kund. It is believed that all these Kunds are very sacred and by drinking this holy water solves the problem of infertility.

All the tanks are supplied with water by the Saraswati Kunda that originated from the navel of Lord Vishnu. Most of the devotees who come to visit the temple take bath in this tank for a happy married life.
