Trinamool calls CBI raid on Mohua Moitra’s premises ‘politics of vengeance’

Calcutta: TMC has termed the ongoing CBI raid on the premises of party leader Mahua Moitra in the alleged cash-for-query case as “vendetta politics” and a desperate move by the BJP to misuse central agencies ahead of the elections.

Officials said the CBI on Saturday searched the premises of former TMC MP Moitra at several places including Kolkata in connection with the case.
He said that the teams of the Central Investigation Agency reached Moitra’s residence in Kolkata and other cities early Saturday, informed about the search proceedings and started the operation.

Senior TMC leader Shantanu Sen said, “This is an attempt to divert the attention of the public and media from various burning issues. It appears that the BJP is sensing the growing public discontent, and they are using all possible means to change the narrative.” They are using it. This is a clear example of vendetta politics.” He said that BJP is misusing central agencies to inform the opposition before the Lok Sabha elections.

“When the Model Code of Conduct is in place, the BJP is sending its most trusted allies, the CBI and ED, to raid our candidates. The Election Commission should look into this,” he said.
However, West Bengal BJP has termed these allegations as baseless.
West Bengal BJP spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya said, “Whenever ED or CBI raids TMC leaders, they scream and accuse it of being politically motivated.

“Whatever Moitra did is a matter of shame for democracy. The reality is that TMC is steeped in corruption, with almost every leader facing corruption charges,” he said.
Moitra was expelled from the Lok Sabha last year after a parliamentary panel found her guilty in the cash-for-queries case.
He has termed suppressing his voice in the House as politics of vengeance.
