Transport service changed the world of women

Faraspal. The National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) has brought new light to the lives of rural women. Through this mission, ordinary village housewives are now becoming self-reliant and establishing a new identity in society. One such inspiring story is that of the women of Faraspal Gram Panchayat in Dantewada district, who, through hard work, dedication, and the support of government schemes, have set an example of self-reliance.
Self-Help Group Finds a Source of Sustainable Income
The women of the Gangadevi Self-Help Group in Faraspal village jointly purchased a Tata Magic vehicle and started a transportation service to the nearby villages of Alnar, Kundenar, Dantewada, and Geedam. This service has now made commuting easier for the villagers, while also providing the women with a sustainable source of income. The Dantewada District Administration provided these women with driving training. The group selected a driver to operate the vehicle and, together, successfully launched the service. Today, this Tata Magic has become a reliable means of transportation for hundreds of villagers daily.
Women are increasing their families’ incomes
Group member Yanti Thakur oversees the accounting and accounting management of this entire transportation service. She explains that she was previously just a housewife, living on a limited income. However, when Gangadevi joined the self-help group, savings and training transformed her life. Now, women are also increasing their families’ incomes.
Partners in Meeting Essential Needs
Today, the group’s monthly income has reached approximately 26,000 rupees. With this income, the women have improved their families’ financial situation and have balanced their children’s education, household needs, and savings. This initiative, launched under the National Rural Livelihoods Mission, shows that when women receive opportunities and support, they become partners in the progress of not only their families but the entire village.
Success through self-confidence
The story of Gangadevi Self-Help Group in Faraspal is an inspiring example of the successful confluence of rural women’s hard work, self-confidence, and government schemes. Now the vehicles running on the roads of Farspal are not just vehicles, but have become the ride of women’s dreams.
