Trade war, security concerns top issues at Shanghai auto show

World World: The Shanghai auto show opened this year amid China’s trade war and security concerns. Increasing competition in the Chinese market and uncertainties over the US-China trade war have put pressure on auto manufacturers to launch new models. More than 100 new models were showcased at the Shanghai Auto Show, mainly featuring a growing number of electric vehicles (EVs).

The trade war has led to US President Donald Trump imposing a 145% tariff on auto parts imported from China, which has impacted global sales. In addition, China’s regulatory bodies have imposed strict regulations on technologies such as “smart driving” and “autonomous driving”. The move comes after a fatal accident involving Xiaomi’s EV model SU7.
