Took dowry, then harassed wife after having a daughter, now husband arrested for plotting murder
UP. Little did Ritika, who had a love marriage 16 years ago, know that with the passage of time her husband would become her enemy. Dheeraj was once the one who used to sing praises of love but now he wants to kill her by usurping her property. In this high profile case of Kanpur city, Gwaltoli police registered a case on Ritika’s complaint and arrested Dheeraj and sent him to jail.
According to Ritika Thapar, who lives in Rameshwaram Apartment of Civil Lines, Dheeraj Thapar, a resident of Vishnupuri, had a love marriage in Arya Samaj temple on 11 February 2008. The marriage was registered on 19 March the next month. It is alleged that soon after the marriage, Dheeraj started taunting her that I got trapped by marrying you for love. If I had married someone else according to my status, I would have got dowry worth crores. He started beating her everyday. When Ritika informed her mother about this, she organized a ceremony in May 2008 and gave five lakh rupees, gifts and jewellery. Even after this, Dheeraj’s behavior did not change. When she gave birth to a daughter on October 7, 2010, she started getting rebukes. When she gave birth to a son on July 19, 2017, she thought that everything would be fine now, but it did not happen. After the birth of a son, the mother once again gave gifts to Dheeraj and his family as per their demand.
It is alleged that in July 2021, Dheeraj usurped Stridhan and threw her out of the house. After which she started living in Rameshwaram Apartment. It is alleged that on December 3, 2024, at 9:30 pm, Dheeraj entered the apartment and called her down. When she reached down with both her children, Dheeraj started abusing her in front of the children. He threatened to kill her if she did not transfer the flat to him and behaved indecently. While beating her, he strangled her and hit her head on the bonnet of the car, in which she was seriously injured. Gwaltoli Inspector Durgesh Mishra said that Dheeraj has been sent to jail.
