
Uttarakhand: To ensure the Kanwar Yatra concludes peacefully, safely, and in an organized manner, the Uttarakhand Police has significantly expanded the scope of security arrangements this year. Additional police forces have been deployed along pilgrimage routes, at major Shiva temples, in sensitive areas, and at crowded locations. Furthermore, round-the-clock surveillance of the entire event is being maintained using drones, CCTV cameras, and modern monitoring systems.
Strengthening the security framework, 18 ‘super zones’ are being established this year, compared to 13 in 2024 and 16 in 2025. Similarly, 40 zones have been created, up from 37 in 2025. The number of sectors has also been increased from 134 to 141. The number of CCTV cameras has been raised from 336 to 370 to ensure surveillance across every inch of the pilgrimage route.
According to police officials, a large number of devotees are expected to arrive for the Kanwar Yatra this year. In light of this, security arrangements have been made more comprehensive and technology-driven than before. The security force deployment has been increased compared to previous years.
A total of 3,753 police personnelāranging from constables to ASPsāwill be deployed for Kanwar duty. For comparison, the total number of police personnel was 2,444 in 2024 and 3,256 in 2025.
Increased Deployment of Central Security Forces, BDS, and ATS Teams
Compared to previous years, the deployment of Central Security Forces, Anti-Terrorism Squads (ATS), Bomb Disposal Squads (BDS), and drones has been increased for the Kanwar Yatra. While 15 companies of the PAC and IRB were deployed for security in 2025, this number has been raised to 17 this year. Similarly, the number of Central Security Force companies has been increased from 11 to 18; Bomb Disposal Squad teams from seven to eight; dog squads from seven to eight; Anti-Terrorism Squad units from two to four; fire tenders from 24 to 27; and drones from 22 to 30.
4.52 Crore Kanwar Pilgrims Arrived in 2025
The number of Kanwar pilgrims is increasing every year. In 2025, 4.52 crore Kanwar pilgrims arrived in Haridwar. Among them, the lowest proportion (1.67%) came from Uttarakhand, followed by 5% from Rajasthan, 8.33% from Punjab, 16.67% from Delhi, and 26.67% from Uttar Pradesh; the highest number arrived from Haryana (31.67%), while 10% came from other states.
