‘Thunder Boom’ device introduced at Chennai airport to scare away birds

Tamil Nadu : Chennai Airport management has purchased new equipment called ‘Thunder Boom’, which can emit loud sounds to scare away birds that disrupt air traffic on the runway.

Since the area where Chennai Airport is located has trees and residential areas, there was a risk of birds flying on the flight path and causing accidents from time to time. Therefore, to drive away the birds, the Chennai Airport Administration was employing staff to burst crackers and make noise. However, since this measure was not 100 percent effective, the airport administration has now purchased a new device to scare away birds by making noise.

According to this, to scare away birds flying in the runway areas that disrupt air traffic, new equipment called ‘Thunder Boom’ has been purchased. This tube-shaped device emits thunder-like sounds. These devices have now been put into operation. Chennai Airport officials have said that it will be 100 percent effective.
