Three female thieves arrested, devotee’s purse recovered
Punjab: Three women from Madhya Pradesh absconded with the purse of a female devotee from the Golden Temple complex here yesterday. Later, after identifying the suspects with the help of footage from CCTV cameras installed in the temple, they were arrested.
The suspects were identified as Sunita Rani, Khushboo and Ramsaki, residents of Rajgarh district of Madhya Pradesh. Police said that a case has been registered against the three under sections 380 and 411 of the IPC.
Rajinder Kaur complained to the police that yesterday she had come to the Golden Temple to pay obeisance. At around 4.30 in the evening, she entered a pond in the women’s section near Gurudwara Dukh Bhanjani Beri Sahib to take bath. The complainant said that when he came out of the lake, he found his purse missing. It contained Rs 8,500 in cash along with his important documents and identity card. He said it also contained a small purse belonging to his daughter-in-law which contained Rs 6,000 in cash and other documents.
The complainant said he saw three women running outside the gurudwara. The complainant said he chased them, but due to the huge crowd of devotees, the suspects managed to escape from the langar hall. Later, she lodged a complaint with the police and SGPC officials on the campus.
While scanning the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the temple, officials noticed the movement of the women, who were arrested by the police. Police recovered the purse along with cash from their possession.
