Three arrested, two detained in case of gang rape of a girl in Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar: Two men and a teenager have been arrested in connection with the gangrape of another girl in Bhubaneswar, police said on Thursday. Two others, aged 21 and 23, have also been detained and are being questioned, a police official said. Both the arrested persons are 19 years old, he said. The girl was allegedly gangraped at a hotel in the Odisha capital on October 16. Based on the victim’s complaint, a case was registered at the Nayapalli police station on Wednesday, Bhubaneswar DCP Pinak Mishra said. He said the arrested girl was a common friend of both the victim and the accused and she had introduced the victim to the accused. “The accused allegedly mixed some intoxicant in the victim’s soft drink and gangraped her,” he said. The accused also made a video of the incident and tried to extort money from the victim and her mother, the official said. “We will seize the equipment used in videography of the incident and take further action accordingly,” he said. An official from the Nayapalli police station said the accused girl had introduced the victim to one of the accused, who had grown close to her. On October 16, the accused allegedly took the victim to a park where he mixed some intoxicants in her soft drink and then took her to a hotel where he and three other accused raped her in turns, the official said. The accused had demanded Rs 12,000 from the victim and Rs 50,000 from her mother and threatened to upload the video on social media, the official said.
