New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday that this is the best time to invest in semiconductor manufacturing in India, as India has a strong ecosystem of global companies. There are also a large number of skilled people.
In the presence of big industry stakeholders at the ‘Semicon India 2024’ event in Greater Noida near Delhi, Prime Minister Modi said that there will never be a slowdown in chips in India, you can bet on our growth story.
Prime Minister Modi said, “Come to India and invest and create value. We will provide you an ecosystem for growth. India has 20 percent of the world’s global talent in semiconductor design. We are creating a strong semiconductor workforce of 85,000. This includes technical experts, R&D experts and designers.” Prime Minister Modi said that the ‘Research Fund’ of Rs 1 lakh crore aims to support basic research and prototype development. This also includes semiconductors. In his address, he further said that India offers a reformist government, a growing manufacturing base and an ambitious technology-oriented market. We are committed to creating a strong talent pool of 85,000 engineers and technicians for semiconductors. More than 113 universities, educational and R&D institutions are associated with this purpose.
Prime Minister Modi also visited the exhibition and interacted with companies about semiconductor solutions. Earlier on Tuesday, CEOs of semiconductor companies praised the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. He said that PM Modi has encouraged not only India but the whole world.
CEOs of major semiconductor companies met Prime Minister Modi at his official residence in the national capital. These included SEMI, Micron, NXP, PSMC, IMEC, Renesas, TEPL, Tokyo Electron Ltd., Tower, Synopsys, Cadence, Rapidus, Jacobs, JSR, Infineon, Advantest, Teradyne, Applied Materials, Lam Research, Merck, CG Power and Kains Technology.
