Tamil Nadu: Two people, including a man wanted for six years in the Thirupuvanam Ramalingam murder case, were arrested in Chennai on Wednesday.

V. Ramalingam, a former PMK town secretary from Vinayagampet in Thirupuvanam Melathundil, Thanjavur district, was allegedly murdered on February 5, 2019, after he condemned religious conversions in the area.

The Thiruvidaimarudur police registered a case and arrested several people. Later, considering the seriousness of the case, the investigation was handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The NIA announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh for information leading to the arrest of the sixth accused in the case, H. Mohammed Ali Jinnah (43), a former district secretary of the Popular Front of India from Thiruppuvanam North Muslim Street.

Similarly, the NIA announced a reward of Rs 20 lakh for information leading to the arrest of four absconding individuals, including M. Burhanuddin (37) from Papnasam Vadakkumangudi area and A. Nafeel Hassan (38) from Thirumangalakudi area.

In this situation, NIA officials arrested M. Burhanuddin and A. Nafeel Hassan last week, along with three others allegedly for harboring them.

Perfume vendor: The absconding Mohammed Ali Jinnah was interrogated by the Tamil Nadu Police Anti-Terrorism Squad and NIA officials. During the Anti-Terrorism Squad’s investigation, it was revealed that Jinnah was living in Chennai and Bengaluru, Karnataka, selling perfumes in crowded places including mosques, markets, and bus stands, and had altered his appearance by shaving his beard and changing his hairstyle to evade the NIA.

The Counter Terrorism Department also found that Jinnah, who frequently changed his whereabouts, had changed his name three times, including to Muhaiyuddin and Sheikh. In this situation, the Anti-Terrorism Squad, which had located Jinnah’s whereabouts and the person sheltering him a few days earlier, informed NIA officials. Based on this information, NIA officials arrested Mohammed Ali Jinnah in Chennai on Tuesday.

They also arrested Azmat (30) for allegedly bribing him. Jinnah, who is the sixth accused in the Ramalingam murder case, is charged with being involved in the conspiracy to murder, planning and executing the murder, and coordinating the entire operation.

Following the investigation, both were produced before Judge Malvizhi at the NIA Special Court in Poonamallee. The judge ordered that Mohammed Ali Jinnah be remanded in judicial custody until January 18 and Azmat until January 19.

Subsequently, both were taken to Puzhal prison under tight security. The NIA is searching for several other individuals in connection with this case.
