The Vice-Chancellor of Al Falah University has been arrested in a fake documents case.

Delhi: Police officials said that the Delhi Police Crime Branch arrested Jawad Ahmed Siddiqui, the chairman of Al Falah University, on Thursday following a complaint from the University Grants Commission (UGC) in connection with the Delhi bombings. The arrest was made based on two separate First Information Reports (FIRs) related to fraud and irregularities.

The action reportedly followed the initiation of proceedings in the case by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Following the bombings near the Red Fort on November 10 last year, the Crime Branch police registered cases of irregularities and forged documents related to the activities of Al Falah University in Faridabad district, Haryana.

University President Jawad Ahmed Siddiqui was produced before a local court. Police officials said the court granted the Crime Branch four days of police custody for questioning. Siddiqui’s assets worth Rs 140 crore have been frozen.

On November 10, police had busted a ‘white-collar terrorist group’ spread across Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. 2,900 kg of explosives were seized. Eight people, including three doctors, were arrested. A few hours later, a powerful explosion occurred in a slow-moving car near the Red Fort Metro station in Delhi, killing 13 people and injuring several others.
