Tamil Nadu: The players from Tamil Nadu who won gold medals in the World Cup Carrom competitions received a grand welcome at Chennai Airport.

The 7th World Cup Carrom Tournament, held in Malé, Maldives, saw the participation of 150 players from 17 countries.

The Indian women’s team, which included Kirthana, Kasima, and Mitra from Tamil Nadu, won gold medals in all three categories: singles, doubles, and the women’s team competition.

Kirthana from Tamil Nadu won 3 gold medals, Kasima won 3 medals – one gold, one silver, and one bronze, and Mitra won two medals – one gold and one silver.

The three players arrived in Chennai by flight on Sunday night. They received a warm welcome at Chennai Airport from the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority, their parents, and relatives.

Speaking to reporters, Kirthana, a player from Kasimedu, said, “I am very proud and happy to have won three gold medals while representing India. I come from a poor family.

“I thought I wouldn’t be able to go to the Maldives to participate in the competition. But Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin encouraged me by giving me ₹1.5 lakh. If I receive government support, I can achieve much more,” she said.
