The budget session of Parliament will begin today at 11 am with the President’s address in both the Houses.

New Delhi: The budget session of Parliament is going to begin with President Draupadi Murmu addressing the joint sitting of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha at 11 am on Wednesday. The last session before the Lok Sabha elections is expected to be held in April-May this year, with a total of eight meetings over a period of 10 days. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the interim budget on Thursday (February 1). According to the business list of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, the proceedings of both the houses will start half an hour after the President’s address. The Secretaries General of the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha will lay a copy of the President’s address on the table of their respective Houses. Tributes will be paid to former MPs Bhadreshwar Tanti, Sonawane Pratap Narayanrao in the Lok Sabha and Hari Shankar Bhabhra, Mrs. Sushri Devi in the Upper House. While Lok Sabha MP TR Baalu is going to table the seventh report of the Privileges Committee, Rajya Sabha MPs Anil Jain and GK Vasan are going to table the seventy-sixth report of the Privileges Committee on the breach of privilege case against them. 11 members for raising slogans and displaying placards, thereby disrupting the proceedings of the House, which is a gross violation of the rules of the House and a blatant disregard for the authority of the Speaker in the Upper House. The central government held a meeting with leaders of political parties under the chairmanship of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday ahead of the interim budget session of Parliament. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said in his inaugural speech that the Parliament session may end on February 9. “The session will consist of 8 meetings over a period of 10 days,” he said. The Union Minister also informed that the session will be mainly devoted to financial business related to the Interim Union Budget for the year 2024-25 and discussion on the motion of thanks on the President’s address, although necessary legislative and other business will also be transacted. During this session. Further, he also informed that the Supplementary Demands for Grants for the year 2023-24 in respect of the Central Government will be discussed and voted on. Further, he said that there will also be presentation and discussion on the Supplementary Demands for Grants of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir for the financial year 2023-24 as well as the Interim Budget of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir for the year 2024-25 and Voting will be done. The Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister further said that the Government is always ready to discuss in the House any issue permitted under the rules of procedure by the concerned Presiding Officers. He also requested active cooperation and support from leaders of all parties for the smooth functioning of both the Houses of Parliament. The meeting was also attended by Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and Textiles Shri Piyush Goyal, who is also the Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha and Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Law. and justice; Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Minister of State in the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and Minister of State in the Ministry of Culture, Shri V. Muraleedharan, Minister of State in the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and Minister of State in the Ministry of External Affairs. Concluding the meeting after hearing the issues raised by leaders of various political parties in both Houses of Parliament, Union Defense Minister Shri Rajnath Singh thanked the leaders for raising important issues in the meeting. 45 leaders from 30 political parties participated in the meeting.
