The body of the girl was found naked, 2 accused of gang rape and murder arrested

Kolkata. Police on Tuesday arrested two people in connection with the alleged gang rape and murder of a minor girl in Basanti in South 24 Parganas district in West Bengal. The arrested people have been identified as Deepen Kayal and Budhadev Bhattacharya. According to media reports, the naked body of the girl was recovered from a field near her house on Monday evening. The body was buried under the soil in the field.

According to district police sources, after the minor girl’s body was recovered, the police started investigating the matter and questioned the people of the area. During interrogation of the local people, the names of the two arrested people came up as suspects. The police interrogated them and found many discrepancies in their statements. After this, they were arrested on Tuesday morning. Both the arrested accused will be produced in a court in Baruipur in South 24 Parganas district. The public prosecutor will seek their police custody.

The minor girl, a class 8 student, was missing since January 9. The victim’s family filed a missing person’s report on January 12. The victim’s parents claimed that their daughter had left the house on January 9 afternoon on the call of a local youth. After the body was found on Monday evening, a family member had said, “She had left the house on the call of a local youth and was missing since then. We suspect that she was first gang-raped and then her body was buried. We demand that the culprits be traced and given severe punishment.”
