The 132/33 kV Airport Gannavaram substation is ready for inauguration.

VIJAYAWADA: The Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Limited (APtransco) has completed the 132/33 kV Airport Gannavaram substation, a key power infrastructure project aimed at strengthening electricity supply in the capital region. The substation will be inaugurated on January 5 by energy minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar, officials said.
Built at a cost of Rs 30.65 crore, the substation is equipped with two 50 MVA power transformers and advanced protection and control systems. It has been designed to meet the growing power requirements of Gannavaram International Airport, including upcoming air traffic control facilities and expansion works, apart from catering to rising industrial, agricultural and residential demand in the region.
With its commissioning, reliable and quality power supply will be ensured to Gannavaram, Vijayawada Rural and Unguturu mandals, benefiting nearly 3.5 lakh people. The project is expected to resolve long-standing low-voltage issues, reduce transmission losses and minimise power interruptions caused by reliance on long 33 kV lines from distant substations.
The substation will also provide uninterrupted power to the airport, improved supply to industries, nine hours of daytime power to the agricultural sector and stable electricity to domestic consumers.
The inauguration will be attended by Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand, Gannavaram MLA and Government Whip Yarlagadda Venkata Rao, ministers Vasamsetti Subhash and Kollu Ravindra, Krishna district Zilla Parishad chairperson Uppala Harika, MPs Vallabhaneni Balashowry and Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni), several MLAs and senior officials of AP power utilities.
