Thai Kizhavi a surprise hit at the box-office

Entertainment : Radhika’s latest film, Thai Kizhavi, has proven to be a surprise winner at the box office, grossing a whopping ₹20 crore worldwide so far. At a time when many films are struggling to attract audiences despite aggressive and often pointless promotional campaigns, this content-driven drama has made a significant impact on its own merit.

Of the total collection, the film earned ₹15 crore in India, while overseas markets contributed ₹5 crore, bringing the global tally close to ₹20 crore. These numbers are impressive, especially considering the expectations surrounding the film before its release.

Without excessive hype or over-the-top marketing strategies, Thai Kizhavi has proven that strong storytelling and emotional depth can still draw audiences to theaters. The film may have some flaws, but reports indicate that Tamil audiences connected deeply with its emotional core and deep story.

Well-known actress Radikaa Sarathkumar once again showcased her acting prowess, almost single-handedly carrying the film. Her performance has been widely praised, with many praising her for choosing a role that emphasizes authenticity over glamour.

The success of Thai Kizhavi sends a clear message to the industry: content truly matters. If Tollywood receives similar audience-driven support for meaningful cinema, such films could replicate this success there as well.

This doesn’t mean that Tollywood isn’t producing content-driven films; it absolutely is. However, recently, many projects seem to be based more on social media or memes than on story. Perhaps the time has come to refocus on rich, emotionally powerful stories, with new-age filmmakers smartly utilising senior actors and their powerful screen presence in meaningful roles.
