Telangana: Telangana government will start work on repairing the roads of the state

Hyderabad: The state government has reportedly decided to start repair work on 436 km of state roads. The Road and Buildings officials are working on modalities to complete the tender process for the repairs. According to officials, road repair work is usually started before the onset of monsoon, but due to the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in force due to the Lok Sabha elections, the state government could not finalise the tender for the repairs. The central government has allocated Rs 850 crore to the state in the last financial year under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF). However, due to the assembly elections in the state last year, there was no opportunity to finalise the work despite receiving funds from the Centre. After the assembly elections, the Lok Sabha election process started and due to the model code of conduct, the officials could not finalise the tender process. Now that the Lok Sabha elections are over, the officials have prepared proposals to repair roads across the state. Sources said that the officials are planning to complete the tender process by the end of this month. Officials said that the tenders received in the past have been finalised and the work is likely to start in the first week of July.

Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy has reportedly asked the officials to complete the tendering process as soon as possible. He has reportedly directed the officials to take up the maintenance and repair work of the state’s roads on a priority basis. Sources said that the government has decided to spend CRIF funds to repair roads in all the districts of the state. Meanwhile, due to lack of regular repair and maintenance work, potholes and rough patches have formed on many roads in the state. Commuters are facing a lot of trouble while passing through such roads across the state. Even light rain is causing trouble to the commuters. With the monsoon season expected to bring more than normal rainfall in the state, a large portion of roads are likely to be damaged due to heavy rains and waterlogging.
