Telangana: Security breach at Shaheen Mandi restaurant in Bahadurpura

Telangana: The Food Safety Commissioner’s task force conducted an inspection in Bahadurpura and Zoo Park area on October 7, 2024, which revealed critical food safety violations in several local establishments.

During the raid at Shaheen Mandi, officials found several serious violations, including the absence of an FSSAI license. Medical fitness certificates and pest control records were also missing. Water stagnation was observed near the washing area, and both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food items were kept together in the same refrigerator. Moreover, the food items were also found uncovered and unlabeled.

Suspected synthetic food colours were found in non-vegetarian items and were later thrown away. Leftover food was removed from the refrigerators on the spot, and refrigerator temperature records were not available. Additionally, officials found that food handlers were working without caps, aprons, or gloves. The inspection at Hotel Fiza revealed similar violations, including the lack of a medical fitness certificate, pest control records, and a water analysis report for RO water used in cooking.

The premises had broken tiles and particles falling from the walls, while the refrigerator was found in a highly unhygienic condition. Food items inside the refrigerator were not properly covered or labelled.

Live cockroach infestation was observed in the kitchen, and doors and windows were open without proper anti-insect screens. Temperature records of the refrigerator were also missing, and leftover food was thrown away on the spot by the food safety officers. Some food handlers were observed without caps and aprons. Inspection at Sukha Sagar Udipi Veg revealed an expired FSSAI licence, which expired on October 3, 2024, which has not been renewed. Medical fitness and pest control records were found missing, along with damage to the false ceiling in the dining area due to water leakage.

The basement kitchen was found open to the outside, with no anti-insect screens, and water stagnation was observed with an open drain near the washing area. There was lack of proper labelling on prepared and semi-prepared food items, and a live cockroach infestation was reported in the storeroom.

Additionally, temperature records for refrigerators were not maintained, and several food handlers were observed without hair caps and aprons.
