Telangana News: Olympus Corporation to set up R&D centre in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD. Hyderabad: Global medtech firm Olympus Corporation on Wednesday announced that it will set up a research and development (R&D) offshore development centre (ODC) in the city. It signed an agreement with HCL Tech to expand its global activities. The announcement was made during a meeting attended by IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu, Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Olympus’ Global Senior Vice President of R&D Syed Naveed. Olympus Chief Innovation Officer Andre Rogan joined the meeting virtually from Tokyo. Special Chief Secretary for Industry Jayesh Ranjan, Consul General of India in New York Binaya Srikant Pradhan and other senior officials of the state were also present. Addressing the gathering, Sridhar said: “We are thrilled that Olympus Corporation, one of the world’s largest medical device companies, has chosen Hyderabad for its first investment in India with an R&D centre. With Hyderabad’s strong infrastructure, strategic location and thriving community of innovative healthcare companies, this investment is going to be a game changer for the medical device sector in India.
He recalled that he had met Olympus representatives during BioAsia 2024 and assured them of the government’s full support. He said Olympus’ advanced technologies and expertise will contribute to the state government’s vision of becoming a global hub for medical device innovation and manufacturing.
Olympus has R&D centres in Japan, the United States and Europe. Olympus will collaborate with AIG Hospitals, Hyderabad on joint research projects.
