Telangana: DCA raid, unlicensed factory busted for illegal drug production

Hyderabad: Special teams of drug inspectors from the Drugs Control Administration (DCA), Telangana raided an unlicensed chemical factory on the outskirts of the city, which was involved in the manufacturing of the drug ‘Diacerein’ and seized 236 kg worth Rs 50.25 lakh. Stock confiscated. Two DCA teams detected unlicensed manufacturing of ‘Diacerein’ at Rakshit Drugs Pvt Ltd. Ltd., Bonthapalli, Gummadidala Mandal, Sangareddy District. A total of nine drums containing yellow colored powder labeled ‘CDE-I’ were found in the firm’s production area. Upon verification, drug inspectors were able to confirm that CDE-1 was labeled for ‘diacerein’, which is commonly used to make formulations for the treatment of osteoarthritis. Rakshit Drugs Private Limited Company manufactured and sold several batches of the drug ‘Diacerein’ under the code name ‘CDE-I’ without a drug license and without following the ‘Good Manufacturing Practices’ (GMP) mandated under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
