Telangana BJP chief arrested: BJP leader files habeas corpus petition in High Court

Hyderabad (IANS) | A Telangana BJP leader has filed a habeas corpus petition in the Telangana High Court in connection with the arrest of party state president Bandi Sanjay Kumar. Petitioner Surender Reddy has requested the court to direct the police to be produced before him. The petition will be heard on Thursday. The petitioner alleges that Sanjay was arrested illegally as he was not even informed of the reason.

The BJP leader said that since Sanjay is a Member of Parliament, he cannot be arrested without prior notice. The petitioner argued that if a person is arrested under Section 50 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), the police must inform his family.

The petitioner told the court that Sanjay was arrested from his in-laws house in the middle of the night. His mother-in-law had recently passed away and he was there to attend a function. He also alleged that the police neither told Sanjay’s family why he was arrested.

The petitioner has named six respondents, including Secretary, Home Department, DGP, Karimnagar and Rachakonda Police Commissioners and Bommala Ramaram circle inspector, etc.

Police arrested Sanjay at around 12.45 pm in connection with Class 10 paper exam leak case in Karimnagar. He was later taken to the Bommala Ramaram police station in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district.

On Wednesday, Sanjay was taken to Warangal district where he would be produced before a magistrate.
