Telangana: 196 motorists caught drunken driving over the weekend in Cyberabad

Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Traffic Police (CTP) conducted a special drive against drunk driving (DD) over the weekend, resulting in the arrest of 196 offenders.

Of the 196 offenders, 140 were motorcyclists, 13 were three-wheeler riders, and 41 were car drivers.

Two of them were heavy-duty drivers. Over 157 offenders had blood alcohol concentration (BAC) levels between 36 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml, while 26 offenders had BAC levels between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml, and 13 had BAC levels between 301 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml. Cyberabad DCP Traffic-1, Ranjan Ratan Kumar, said that all offenders will be produced before the relevant court. Cyberabad police reiterated that drunk driving is a serious offense.

They said, “If anyone is found driving under the influence and causes a fatal accident, they will be charged under Section 105 of the Indian Penal Code, 2023 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder). The maximum punishment under this section is 10 years in prison and a fine.”

From February 9 to 14, the court resolved approximately 212 DD cases, with half a dozen people receiving fines and social service, while 206 received only fines.
