Tarn Taran: Main accused arrested in Sarpanch murder case

Punjab: Police have arrested a key suspect in the murder of Thathian Mahant village sarpanch Harbinder Singh. He is accused of assisting in financial transactions related to the crime. Senior Superintendent of Police Surinder Lamba said Sukhbir Singh, a resident of Verka, Amritsar, was arrested on Wednesday at Sri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport while attempting to board a flight to Dubai. Police deboarded him before takeoff. Seven suspects have been arrested so far in the case.

The two alleged main shooters – Manpreet Singh of Chattiwind, Amritsar, and Gurdev Singh alias Hardev Singh of Khadoor Sahib, Tarn Taran – are absconding. A reward has been announced for information leading to their arrest. The murder took place at Sidhu Farm. Initial investigations suggest that the crime stemmed from a personal rivalry between the deceased and a gangster named Satta. The SSP said Sukhbir Singh played a key role in transferring funds to those involved in the crime. Police have identified transactions worth ₹2 lakh linked to the case. The other arrested accused include Sharanpreet Singh, Hardeep Singh, Romanpreet Singh, Navjot Singh alias Kalu, and Gurpal Singh alias Khushi, all residents of Chohla Sahib, and Arshdeep Singh, a resident of Jalandhar.
