Tamil Nadu: Yellow alert issued for heavy rain in 15 districts from Thursday

Tamil Nadu Tamil Nadu: Yellow alert of heavy rain has been issued in 15 districts of Tamil Nadu from Thursday, June 4. The weather department has warned that light to moderate rain with thunder, lightning and strong winds may occur in many parts of the state. In view of this, people and concerned departments have been advised to remain alert.
The south-west monsoon is likely to enter Kerala on Thursday, the Chennai Meteorological Department said in a press release on Wednesday. Along with this, a low-pressure area from the atmospheric circulation over western Uttar Pradesh is spreading to northern Tamil Nadu via Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Telangana and Rayalaseema. This system will affect the weather in the state.
According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of light rain with thunder and lightning at some places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal from June 4 to June 9. Especially, there is a warning of very heavy rain at one or two places in Kanyakumari district. Apart from this, heavy rainfall is expected at one or two places over Tenkasi and Tirunelveli districts as well as hilly areas of Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet and Tiruvannamalai districts.
The Meteorological Department has appealed to the people to take precautions to protect their homes, fields and other properties. People should be alert about landslides and waterlogging, especially in hilly areas. People traveling to schools, offices and public places have also been advised to adopt safe routes due to rain and strong winds.
Various departments have also been instructed to remain alert and be prepared for relief operations if needed. The department said that monsoon activity is likely to increase in the state in the coming days and in view of this, all administrative units need to be on alert mode.
Weather experts say that this rain will also affect agricultural areas. Light to moderate rains can be beneficial for crops, but strong winds and heavy rains are also likely to cause damage to fields and trees. Farmers have been advised to take necessary measures to protect the crops in their fields.
The Meteorological Department also said that there will be a possibility of rain over various parts of the state in the coming days along with locally gusty winds and thunderstorms along with lightning. Therefore, people have been advised to be safe around electrical appliances and open spaces.
During this yellow alert, citizens are required to follow the instructions of the local administration and meteorological department so that any emergency situation can be dealt with.
