Tamil Nadu ranks first in the production capacity of red clover.

Tamil Nadu: Agriculture Minister M.R.K. Panneerselvam proudly announced that Tamil Nadu has reached the top position in red chili production capacity.

The Agriculture Budget Report submitted by him stated:

The Tamil Nadu Small Grains Movement is being implemented as a five-year plan from 2023-24, with the aim of increasing the production and consumption of nutritious small grains.

Under this scheme, 12.84 lakh farmers have benefited from funds worth ₹178 crore so far. Small grains have been cultivated on 20 lakh acres. In addition, integrated demonstration plots have been created on 3.36 lakh acres and 90 small grain value addition centers have been established.

As a result, Tamil Nadu has set national records by ranking first in rice productivity, second in rice production, and fifth in small grain production. The area under rice cultivation has increased from 1.18 lakh acres to 1.33 lakh acres.

Over the past five years, the Pulses Multiplication Scheme has been implemented with a budget of ₹174 crore, benefiting 9.44 lakh farmers across 2.4 lakh acres.

The “Turmeric Area Expansion Movement” and “Turmeric Plantation” schemes have been implemented across 2.52 lakh acres with a fund of ₹66 crore, benefiting 1.48 lakh farmers.

Under the Oilseeds Mission, high-tech inputs and subsidies are being provided for the cultivation of oilseeds, including peanuts and sesame. Over the past five years, a fund of ₹229 crore has been allocated to promote oilseed cultivation across 1.4 lakh acres, benefiting 7.54 lakh farmers.

Currently, the demand for maize for ethanol production and animal feed has increased significantly. Keeping this in mind, schemes to promote maize production have been implemented over the past five years with a budget of ₹200 crore. 78 crore, benefiting 1.50 lakh farmers.

As a result, the area under maize cultivation has increased from 1 million acres to 1.2 million acres. Maize production has increased from 2.6 million metric tons to 2.7 million metric tons.
