Tamil Nadu: Over 50 people injured after being bitten by rabid dogs in Thiruchengode

Tamil Nadu: Incidents of rabid dog bites have caused panic in the Thiruchengode urban area. More than 50 people were injured from morning to night on Saturday and were admitted to the Thiruchengode Government Hospital for treatment.

According to reports, more than 100 stray dogs are roaming in areas like Tiruchengode, Ettimadaiputhur, Rajivnagar, Kombainagar, Kootapalli, Velmurugan Nagar, Pavaditheru, and Bhaktavatsalam Nagar in Namakkal district. Some of these dogs are rabid and are chasing and biting people.

Government hospital officials stated that the injured include women, children, and the elderly. Many have been discharged from the hospital after immediate treatment, while serious cases are being monitored. Doctors advised that those bitten by rabid dogs should get vaccinated against rabies and receive immediate first aid.

Local residents demanded the municipal administration capture the stray dogs roaming the area. In response, the municipal corporation has initiated action and the process of capturing stray dogs is ongoing. A municipal official stated that for safety, the dogs will be captured and placed in a suitable location, and people have been advised to remain vigilant.

The local administration has appealed to citizens to stay away from rabid dogs and to immediately seek medical attention if bitten. Officials also advised special attention to children and the elderly, as they are more vulnerable and at risk of being bitten by rabid dogs.

The number of stray dogs in Thiruchengode and surrounding areas has increased in the past few months. Locals report that these dogs roam the city’s urban areas in search of food and water, sometimes attacking people. The municipal team stated that, in addition to capturing dogs, cleanliness and awareness campaigns will be conducted to prevent such incidents in the future.

After the efforts of the Municipal Corporation administration and the vigilance of the people, it is expected that the number of mad dogs will soon be controlled and the citizens will be able to remain safe.
