Tamil Nadu: Order to display tuition fees on notice boards in private schools

Tamil Nadu Tamil Nadu: Tamil Nadu School Education Department has directed all private schools to clearly display their tuition fee information on the notice board. This step has been taken with the aim of ensuring transparency of fees to parents and guardians and preventing complaints of charging unnecessary fees.

More than 12,000 private schools are operating in Tamil Nadu. The tuition fees of these schools are decided by the committee that decides private school fees of the state. However, according to complaints from the education department and parents, some private schools are charging more than the fixed fees.

In view of this situation, Tamil Nadu State Information Commissioner Ilamparithi issued a notification last week. It said that all private schools should make the details of their tuition fees public on the notice board. Also, the Private School Directorate was directed to submit the report in this regard by June 16.

In compliance with this notification, the Private School Directorate has now issued orders to all the schools. A circular has been sent by Director Sukanya to all the District Principal Education Officers, in which it has been made clear that every school should display its fixed tuition fees on the notice board and make fee related information easily available to the parents.

The Education Department has said that this step is necessary to protect the rights of parents and bring transparency in fee collection. By publishing tuition fees on the notice board, parents will get actual information about the fees and any kind of irregular collection can be monitored.

Experts believe that this instruction will increase monitoring over the fee structure in private schools and instill confidence among parents. Also, this step will help in reducing fee disputes and complaints.

The directorate has also said that the fee information on the notice board should be clear and easily readable. This should include tuition fees, additional fees, and other payment details for each class and course. Schools have been directed to ensure compliance with this rule and submit reports within the prescribed time limit.

This step is considered important to ensure transparency between private schools and parents. The education department has warned schools that if the instructions are not followed, strict disciplinary measures can be taken.
