Tamil Nadu: Order to collect data on vacant teaching positions in government schools

Tamil Nadu: The Tamil Nadu School Education Department has initiated the process of collecting detailed information on vacant secondary and graduate teacher positions in government schools across the state. An official circular has been issued by the Directorate of School Education to all Principal Education Officers in this regard.

According to the circular, it is mandatory to submit information on all vacant positions for graduate teachers and intermediate teachers retiring by May 31, 2026, in government, municipal, higher secondary, and secondary schools under the School Education Department’s control within the stipulated timeframe.

The directive states that all concerned officials must submit complete details of vacant positions to the Directorate of School Education’s official email address, c3supdtdse@gmail.com, by May 20th. A hard copy of this report, signed by the Principal Education Officer, must also be sent via speed post or express mail.

The Education Department has also clarified that caution should be exercised when preparing the vacant position report. Posts declared surplus by administrative decision and transferred to the Directorate General of School Education will not be included as vacant posts under any circumstances.

Furthermore, posts in schools where teachers have been redistributed or staff adjustments have been made as per requirement will also not be included in the list of vacant posts. The department has asked to ensure that only information about actual vacant posts is included in the report.

The purpose of this entire process is to assess the actual teacher situation in the state’s government schools and to make the future appointment and redistribution process more effective. This will ensure transparency in the education system and better utilization of resources.

The Education Department has directed all concerned officials to provide accurate and certified information within the stipulated timeframe, so that further administrative action can be taken in a timely manner.
