Tamil Nadu: Orange alert issued, possibility of heavy rain

Chennai: The Regional Meteorological Center (RMC) here on Sunday issued an orange alert predicting heavy to very intense rainfall in Chengalpattu, Villupuram and Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu.

According to the Meteorological Department, the climatic conditions during the next 48 hours will be generally cloudy with moderate to heavy rainfall likely in some areas.

According to the RMC, heavy rain has been predicted at isolated places in Chennai, Ranipet, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Mayiladuthurai, Theni, Tiruvannamalai, Tenkasi, Ariyalur, Kallakurichi and Kanniyakumari districts of Tamil Nadu on Sunday.

The RMC has also predicted heavy rain at isolated places in Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Tiruvallur districts on Monday and Kanniyakumari on Tuesday. The cyclonic circulation over Lakshadweep now extends up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.
