Tamil Nadu: Heavy rain warning

Tamil Nadu: The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall in some areas of the state on Monday, April 6. The Meteorological Department stated that isolated heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely in the hilly areas of Virudhunagar, Theni, and Dindigul districts.
The Meteorological Department stated in a press release that due to the formation of a low-pressure area in Rayalaseema and surrounding areas of Andhra Pradesh, rain is likely in the southern and western highlands districts of Tamil Nadu on Monday. Dry and cool weather is expected in northern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. Skies over Chennai and Puducherry will remain partly cloudy.
The Meteorological Department further stated that isolated light rain and thunderstorms are likely in the coastal districts, Puducherry, and Karaikal on Tuesday and Wednesday (April 7 and 8). From April 9 to April 11, light rain is expected in isolated areas in the western hills, surrounding districts, and coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, as well as in Puducherry and Karaikal.
Rainfall has been consistently recorded across the state over the past 24 hours. As of 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, Ootu and Nallumukku areas in Tirunelveli district recorded the highest rainfall of 70 mm. Other areas also received significant rainfall. Ponnai Dam in Vellore, Kakkachi in Tirunelveli, Barwood in the Nilgiris, and Thozhudur in Cuddalore recorded approximately 50 mm of rainfall.
Sattur in Virudhunagar, Manjolai in Tirunelveli, Veppandhattai in Perambalur, Ettapur in Salem, Thiruthani in Tiruvallur, Manimutharu in Tirunelveli, Srimushnam and Bellandur in Cuddalore, and Krishnapuram in Perambalur received approximately 40 mm of rainfall.
The Meteorological Department has advised citizens to remain vigilant, especially in areas where heavy rainfall is likely. People have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel near river banks or in low-lying areas and to take safety precautions during the rains.
Local authorities have also issued an alert due to the rains in the western hills and southern Tamil Nadu districts. Officials have warned that necessary steps should be taken to prevent waterlogging or landslides in hilly areas.
Officials said that the weather in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal will continue to change in the coming days, so farmers, travelers, and the general public need to pay attention to updated weather information.
