Tamil Nadu: Heavy rain warning issued in 19 districts

Tamil Nadu: The Chennai Meteorological Department has issued a weather warning for the coming days in Tamil Nadu. The department has issued a yellow alert for 19 districts in the state, including the Nilgiris and Coimbatore, on Sunday and Monday, May 24th and 25th. The department has advised people to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.

In a press release issued on Saturday, the Meteorological Department stated that an atmospheric circulation is active at an altitude of approximately 3.1 kilometers to 5.8 kilometers over the southeast and adjoining central Bay of Bengal. Due to this weather system, weather changes will be observed in many parts of the state over the next few days.

According to the Meteorological Department, this system is likely to cause light rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal regions from May 24th to May 29th. While the intensity of the rain will not be uniform across the state, the weather may remain unstable in many areas.

The department specifically stated that heavy rainfall is likely in several districts of the state on May 26th. These include districts like Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Nilgiris, Theni, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakumari. A yellow alert has been issued in all these districts in view of the potential heavy rainfall.

A yellow alert means that weather conditions may deteriorate and people need to be vigilant. During this time, local administrations may be instructed to make necessary preparations to deal with any emergency.

The Meteorological Department has stated that cloud activity is likely to be high in coastal and high-altitude areas, which could lead to thunderstorms and lightning at many locations. The weather impacts may be particularly severe in hilly and coastal areas.

The administration has appealed to the public to follow the weather department’s warnings and avoid unnecessary travel, especially in districts where heavy rainfall is predicted. Farmers and fishermen have also been advised to exercise caution in light of the weather conditions.

The weather in the state is currently being monitored closely, and further warnings may be issued in the coming days based on the situation. The Meteorological Department has clarified that the next few days will be crucial for rainfall in many parts of Tamil Nadu.
