Tamil Nadu: Fugitive in international drug case arrested in Trichy

Tamil Nadu: Nabar, who was linked to an international drug trafficking gang, was arrested in Trichy upon his return from Singapore.

In February 2020, the Central Narcotics Control Unit received a tip that marijuana was being smuggled in a box truck near Vedaranyam in Nagapattinam district. Based on this, they raided the box truck on Ayyakkaranpulam Valluvar Road near Vedaranyam. 661 kg of marijuana was seized.

Investigation revealed that the marijuana was brought to Tamil Nadu from Andhra Pradesh and was planned to be transported to Sri Lanka via sea from Tamil Nadu.

In connection with this, five individuals, namely Selvaraj (54) from Vedaranyam, Ayyappan (33) and Paramanandam (35) from Kodiyakadu area, Ramanan (45) from Chennai, and Thavamani (37) were immediately arrested. However, the main accused, Ramdas, who is linked to an international drug gang, was absconding. Investigations by Central Narcotics Control Unit (CNDCU) officials revealed that Ramdas had fled to Singapore.

Following this, a ‘Red Corner’ notice was issued against him. Central Narcotics Control Unit officials said on Wednesday that they arrested Ramdas, who arrived in Trichy by plane from Singapore on the 19th. Based on the existing ‘Red Corner’ notice, Citizenship Department officials apprehended Ramdas during a raid and handed him over to Central Narcotics Control Unit officials. They arrested Ramdas and are investigating the case.
