Tamil Nadu: Cyber ​​crime causes loss of Rs 365 crore in 13 months

Tamil Nadu: Cybercrime Prevention Division Deputy Commissioner N. Srinath stated that cybercrime has caused losses of ₹365 crore to people in the Chennai Metropolitan Police area in the past 13 months.

The Chennai Metropolitan Police organized an awareness rally on Sunday to prevent cybercrime. The rally, which began at the Laborer’s Statue on Marina Beach in Chennai, was led by Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) G. Karthikeyan. Actor Santhanam, who attended as a special guest and inaugurated the rally, urged people to be vigilant and avoid falling prey to cybercrime.

Speaking further, Cybercrime Prevention Division Deputy Commissioner N. Srinath stated that from January 1, 2025, to February 28, 2026, the Chennai Metropolitan Police received 3,692 cybercrime complaints.

Of these, 208 cases were registered and 164 criminals were arrested. During this period, victims of cybercrime have suffered losses of ₹365 crore.

He stated that ₹38.3 crore of this amount was recovered and transferred to the bank accounts of the affected individuals.

The rally, which reached the Kannagi Statue, was attended by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Crime Branch), A.A. Geethanjali, police officers, and over 500 students from Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda College, New College, Loyola College, Presidency College, Guru Nanak College, Rani Mary College, Srikandasamy Naidu College, and Anna Adarsh ​​College for Women.

They raised slogans and raised awareness about cybercrime, online trading, digital arrests, marriage scams, and online part-time job scams.
