Tamil Nadu CM issues strict instructions to recover Rs 317 crore dues from farmers

Tamil Nadu: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has taken a major step regarding pending payments to farmers, directing officials to expedite the process of recovering ₹317 crore from the Central Government within two weeks. Following the Chief Minister’s order, administrative action has been initiated.

A delegation from the National South Indian River Link Farmers Association, led by its president, P. Ayyakannu, met with Chief Minister Vijay Rupani at the Secretariat in Chennai. They congratulated him on assuming office and discussed various issues concerning farmers.

The delegation submitted a formal memorandum to the Chief Minister, requesting him to coordinate with the Central Government and expedite the payment of ₹317 crore to farmers under the National Farmers Cooperative Federation. They stated that this amount had been pending for a long time, causing farmers to face financial difficulties.

After receiving the memorandum, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani took the matter seriously and directed the concerned departmental officials to take immediate necessary action. He stated that protecting the interests of farmers is the government’s priority and that delays at any level will not be tolerated.

According to government sources, the Chief Minister has given clear instructions to coordinate with the relevant central government departments and complete the process of recovering or resolving outstanding dues within two weeks. The necessary correspondence and formalities have been directed to be completed expeditiously.

This move is being seen as a significant initiative by the state government in the interest of farmers. Farmer representatives have expressed hope that this action will resolve the long-pending payment issue and provide relief to farmers.

Farmer organizations say that the lack of timely payments adversely affects agricultural operations and economic conditions, and therefore, such an initiative is likely to provide significant relief to farmers.

The Chief Minister’s Office has also indicated that issues related to farmers will be resolved on a priority basis, and all concerned departments have been instructed to ensure timely action.
